The Department has been initiated in 2000-2001 session. Since its inception the Department offers two compulsory courses and one job oriented course to the undergraduate students. Four other courses are also offered to M.Sc and Ph.D students of sister Departments. This Department has started Ph.D programme. Regarding research acheivements the Department has standardized low cost protocol for large scale micropropagation of Musa and Carica. In addition to this the Department has completed DNA finger printing of some traditional Basmati and scented landraces of rice. Moreover, this Department is engaged in molecular breeding for Yellow Vein Mosaic (YVM) disease tolerance and Bruchid resistance in Vigna in collaboration with Crop Research Unit of this University
