Education and Awareness on IPR
The progress and success of IPR depends on public awareness and education preferably at graduation and post-graduation levels. There are various scopes in educating prospective students/researchers/scientists and other stakeholders regarding different forms (patent, geographical indication, trademark and design), methodology of registration and commercialization of tools/equipments/ traditional knowledge, and benefits of the society. Besides, the awareness programmes and trainings are conducted at district levels by the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), NGOs, Science Clubs, etc.; while regional/state-level workshops are organized by the State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) and others.

West Bengal IPR Policy and its relation to Agriculture
West Bengal leads innovations in all sectors including Information Technology (IT), Biotechnology, Healthcare, Materials, Instrumentation, etc. West Bengal’s priceless contributions in literature, art, music, drama, film and other forms of creative ventures is well recognized all around the globe. Besides, West Bengal is a rich source of genetic diversity in agriculture sector, where different forms of IPR being applicable need proper attention.
Patent Information Centre, the designated unit of WBCST, Government of West Bengal organised the Workshop on State IP Policy on 19.11.2019, where BCKV participated as a State Agricultural University. As per State IP Policy, Patent Information Centre of WBCST, Government of West Bengal is engaged as a single window nodal agency for administering all IPR related matters like geographical indication, authorised user protection, plant variety protection, copy right for protection of traditional knowledge, cultural expression, etc.of the state. Two SAUs follow the State IP Policy and continue the IPR related activities in well-set consortium mode in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture, Department of Agricultural Marketing, other related Departments of Government of West Bengal, SAMETI and Patent Information Centre as practiced during last two decades.
