BCKV was bifurcated in the year of 1996 and new Faculty of Agricultural Engineering was established along with the bifurcation for conducting the UG and Ph.D programmes in Agricultural Engineering. Dean Office was also established at the same time, i.e. in the year of 1996. The BCKV Act, 1974 was also amended in the year of 1996 accordingly.
This Faculty has four constituent departments, viz. i) Department of Farm Machinery and Power (ii) Department of Soil and Water Engineering (iii) Department of Post Harvest Engineering and (iv) Department of Food Engineering.
The agricultural engineering has been playing an important role since eighteenth century across the globe particularly in respect of farm mechanizations for tillage, sowing, inter-culturing, harvesting and threshing operations, soil conservation, pressurized and tickles irrigations, post harvesting and value additions, food processing and other peripheral activities. The discipline of agricultural engineering integrates engineering and agricultural science knowledge and skill to develop technology and/or processes to raise production and productivity of agriculture and other farm produces through efficient utilization of natural resources and conserving the same for future use. The specific activities include efficient utilization of agricultural inputs through improved implements and machinery ensuring timeliness in farming operations (mechanization), reducing drudgery in agriculture and improving quality of farm produce (processing and value addition). Farm mechanizations gradually replace the animal drawn implements and power in the field of agriculture and processing activities. The agricultural engineering education addresses issues relevant to social and technological development of the farmers.
Deans office is located in the new building of Faculty of Agricultural. Engineering at Mohanpur campus, Nadia along with its main campus.
Subsections: Deans Office; Workshop Unit, Instructional Farm and State farm machinery training and testing Institute. Office of the Faculty Council is also attached with the Deans office.
