The Department of Agricultural Statistics started its journey along with the formation of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya. Initially the department was included as the Department of Statistics under the University of Kalyani since its establishment in 1961. The present Department of Agricultural Statistics is one of the unique departments of the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya shouldering the responsibility of teaching and research in Statistics, Mathematics & Computer Sciences to all the students across the three Faculties of the university namely, the Faculty of Agriculture, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering to Under Graduate and Post Graduate level students besides providing expertise to almost all the research projects and developmental activities. Our future vision includes, other than instilling confidence of Agri-Horti graduates, also to train thousands of farmers/researchers of the state so that they can have knowledge about the modern information system, information kiosk, its uses etc. towards more prosperity through better livelihood. The department of Agricultural Statistics envisages to be a nationally and internationally acclaimed department in the field of statistics and informatics so that the fruits of statistics and related areas reach to the billions users in different fields.
