Success Story: Honey Bee

 

The project was sanctioned by ICAR as Experimental learning Unit and had been implemented in 2013. Later it stopped running with in a year of implementation due to some official problem and had been re-started in September, 2016 with continuing cycle of honey production.

Performance of 2016-17:

Targeted output:

  • 4 Tonnes of honey and 4 Lakhs of Rupees as revenue
  • 6 Students to be enrolled in ELP.

Achievement:

 
  • Production target of 4 tonnes of honey could be achieved, seven unifloral honey from mustard, coriendar, black cumin, litchi and amongst Sundarban flora Kholse,kaora and Goran had been produced. The total volume of honey produced in 2016-17 has already been sold. Additionally excess of honeybees also had been sold. Total revenue earned was Rs. 7,14,284. ’Sufal Bangla’, a marketing network developed through FPOs (launched by Deptt. Of Agril. Marketing, Govt. of West Bengal) has primarily marketed our honey.
  • Only two students participated in ELP and rupees 29,000 could be paid to them out of profit earned.

Performance of 2017-18

  • Performance of 2016-17 has been reviewed by Hon’ble VC in a meeting held on 12.12.17
  • Budget of an amount of Rs. 5,23,000/ for year II had been approved. Target fixed for honey production in 2017-18 is five tones and expected revenue to be earned is Rupees Ten lakhs.
  • Number of students to be enrolled in ELP is six.
  • Targeted production of honey 5 tonnes.

Achievements Till Date:

 
  • Due to weather aberrations production of mustard honey was less than target i.e. 850 kg (apx), that of coriendar- 250 kg (apx), black cumin nil, litchi 100 kg and from Sunderban, Khalsi -1219kg till date.
  • FSSAI Registration of the product has been done.
  • Biochemical analysis of all the unifloral honey with antibiotic detection has been done.
  • Five students have been enrolled for ELP this year and estimated payment for this year to them will be around Rs. 72,500/.
  • Two farmers training have been conducted.
  • Five Ph.D students are taking special training for 21 days.
  • MOU for sole distributorship with Sufal Bangla is in the process of finalization
