Achievements & Planning

 

 

  • The research work of the Department on various aspects of soil physical, chemical and biological behaviour have been impressive and earned national and international reputation.
  • In addition, the Department has also achieved to expand its activities in the following sectors:
  • Established a referral laboratory as Farmers' Service Centre for Soil Testing and Fertilizer Recommendation in BCKV, Mohanpur, 2015.

Awards/ Honours/ Recognition during last 5 years:

 
  • Dr. P. K. Mani is the recipient of Best poster presentation Award on the paper “A study of nitrogen use efficiency in SRI over direct seeded and transplanted rice” during 82ndAnnual Convention and National Seminar on “Developments in Soil Science-2017” of ISSS held at Amity University, 11-14 December, 2017.
  • Dr.SushantaSaha received Best Oral Presentation Award in 1st Farm Innovation Congress (FIC), 2018 & National Conference on “Innovative Farming for Food and Livelihood Security in Changing Climate” held during 12-13 January, 2018 at FACC, BCKV, West Bengal organized by Innovative Farming and Society for Advancement of Agricultural Innovations (SAAI), Tripura and AICRP on STCRC, Directorate of Research, BCKV.
  • Dr. P.K. Bandopadhyay and N. Saha were appointed as Adjunct Faculty at Uttar Banga KrishiViswavidyalaya, Cooch Behar, West Bengal (2018).
  • Dr. P.K. Bandopadhyay was appointed Section Editor of the Journal of the Indian Society of Soil Science (From 2020).  
  • Dr N. Saha was an invited speaker in National Workshop on Advancement in Green Technology for Controlling and Managing Current Environment Pollution held on 22-23 March, 2018
  •  Dr N. Saha was an invited speaker in a training programme on Management of Soil Health for Sustainable Production under SERB, DST sponsored project, Division of Soil Science, IARI, New Delhi, on 22-27 March, 2021  
  • Dr N. Saha was an expert member on RUSA project evaluation committee, University of Kalyani during 30-31 June,2021
  • Dr. S. K. Pal acted as an Expert on CAS for promotion of KVK scientist (2017) at UBKV, Pundibari.
  • Dr. S. K. Pal chaired the Tech. Session in the International Conference on “Agriculture and Allied Sciences: The Productivity, Food Security and Ecology” (2018) FACC, BCKV.
  • Dr. S. K. Pal acted as external Expert for the B.O.S of Department of Soil science and Agricultural Chemistry Visva-Bharati, Palli-Siksha Bhavan, Sriniketan, Birbhum during 2018-2020.
  • Dr. S. K. Pal acts as External member of Faculty Council of UBKV, Pundibari since 2020.
  • Dr.Dibyendu Sarkar received InSc Research Excellence Award 2021 of Institute of Scholars, Bengaluru.
  • Dr.Dibyendu Sarkar received International Scientist Awards 2021 on Engineering, Science and Medicine of VDGOOD, Professional Association.
  • Dr.Dibyendu Sarkar received Outstanding Researcher Award 2020 (6th Venus International Science and Technology Awards 2020) of the Venus International Foundation, Chennai.
  • Dr.Dibyendu Sarkar received Outstanding Scientist Award 2020 of The Society of Tropical Agriculture, New Delhi.
  • Dr.Dibyendu Sarkar received Best Poster Presentation Award (First) for the paper entitled "Is zinc and iron good cousin in cereals bred over decades since the Green Revolution in India?" presented in the National Webinar on “Agrochemicals for upkeeping environment” organized by the Society for Fertilizers and Environment in collaboration with Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya on August 27, 2020.
  • Dr.Dibyendu Sarkar received Best Poster Presentation Award (Third) for the paper entitled "Boron balance study under a long-term fertility experiment" presented in the National Webinar on “Agrochemicals for upkeeping environment” organized by the Society for Fertilizers and Environment in collaboration with Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya on August 27, 2020.  
  • Dr.Dibyendu Sarkar received Lal Bahadur Shastri Outstanding Young Scientist Award of Indian Council of Agricultural Research in Natural Resource Management & Agricultural Engineering  
  • Dr. Tapas Biswas was the member of the State Scheme Sanctioning Committee (SSSC) on Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) under Mission Nirmal Bangla, Panchayats & Rural Development Department, Govt. of West Bengal, February 01, 2016.  
  • Dr. Tapas Biswas was the member of ‘State Level Advisory Body’ for approving the ‘State policy and strategy on Solid Waste Management for Urban Areas of West Bengal’ – PouraPrasashan Bhawan, Salt Lake, Kolkata

Future Planning of the Department:

 
  • Introduction of a new course on ‘Soil Health and Quality’in Post Graduate level.
  • Development of a laboratory for preparation of nanoparticleand doing research on it.
  • Development of instrumental facilities on clay mineral identification for practical as well as research purpose for post-graduate students.
  • To extend soil testing services further at farmers’ doorstep
