Extra-mural Funded Project of the Department

Sl.No. Name of the Project Goal Duration Funding Agency Activities
1 Study of rice yield under low light intensity using genomic approach  Identification of best performing genotype both under normal and low light and its genetic mechanism  2015-2020  ICAR-Incentivizing Research Scheme, GoI
  • A panel of contrasting genotypes was identified by screening 300 genotypes for two years.
  • Physiological, Biochemical and anatomical analysis of the panel.
  • Validation of gene-based markers in the mapping population.
  • Crossing with popular cultivars for enhancing yield in kharif of Eastern India.
2 Development of abiotic stress tolerance rice genotypes with special emphasis to drought and P-deficiency tolerance suitable for WB agro-climates  To develop high yielding semi-dwarf rice with two drought tolerance QTLs and three P-deficiency (PD) tolerance genes suitable for Red and lateritic tract of WB  2014-19  DAE-BRNS, GoI
  • Marker assisted introgression of 2 major drought tolerance QTLs in the background of IET25696 (carries 3 PD tolerance genes) and IET25701
  • 2 lines are ready for on-firm yield trial.
3 Niche Area of Excellence on ‘Development and validation of molecular markers for novel alleles of candidate genes enhancing yield and low accumulation of arsenic from native rice germplasm’  Utilization of the advance knowledge of rice genomes for allele mining of the genes enhancing yield and low accumulation of arsenic in grain and training of PG students.   Jan 2017-2021  ICAR -Education Directorate, Govt. of India
  • Superior Candidate gene for yield enhancing and low accumulation of arsenic will be identified based on expression at the transcription and translation level
  • Sequence will be compared among the contrasting genotypes to identify molecular markers.
  • Polymorphic markers will be validated in several mapping population to confirm their utilities in marker assisted breeding of rice.
4 Development of high yielding, early maturing and small-seeded lentil varieties with resistance to key biotic and abiotic stresses, suitable to short-season environments  To develop high yielding extra early lentil with terminal heat tolerance suitable for rice fallow areas of WB  2013-2022  ICARDA
  • Terminal heat tolerance lines with collar rot and stemphyllium blight resistance were identified by screening of an international germplasm pool (200 genotypes).
  • Seven F4 segregating population were developed for further selection followed by multi-location trials.
  • De-novo NGS for identification of differentially expressed genes under heat stress.
5 Identification of superior alleles for high yield-potential under drought and their functional markers following candidate gene approach in rice  Allele specific markers and their utilization in development of drought tolerance rice lines by MAS  2017-2020  DST, GoI
  • Identification of drought tolerance Landraces.
  • RQ of transcript for the genes responsible for drought (reproductive stages), root architecture etc.
  • Identification of Allele specific SNPs and other markers and their validation
6 Identification of Lentil Genotype Resistance Against Acetohydroxyacid Synthase (AHAS) Inhibitors by Induced Mutation  Development of herbicide tolerance lentil lines by mutation breeding  2017-2020  DAE-BRNS
  • Screening of 50000 M2 lines against the near-lethal dose of herbicides of the following groups; sulfonyl urea, imidazolinones, triazolopyrimidines, pyrimidinyloxybenzoates, sulfonyl amino carbonyl-triazolinones.
  • Utilization in breeding program
7 Multilocation adoptive trials of BARC released Mustard, greengram and Blackgram varieties/advance lines   Release mustard, greengram and Blackgram varieties under SVRC 2015-2021  DAE-BRNS
